Indian Coast Guard's (ICG) annual mission to promote marine conservation 'Operation Olivia' helped protect nesting sites of over 6.98 lakh Olive Ridley turtles at Rushikulya river mouth in Odisha during February 2025.
This mission is carried out by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) annually from November to May.
It aims to ensure nesting sites for Olive Ridley turtles especially at Gahirmatha Beach and surrounding coastal areas of Odisha, where over eight lakh turtles visit every year.
Every year over eight lakh Olive Ridley turtles visit these areas for nesting.
