अधोलिखितं गद्यांशं पठित्वा 1-8 प्रश्नानां विकल्पात्मकोत्तरेभ्य उचिततमम् उत्तरं चित्वा लिखत– योगस्य परम्परा: वेदेषु मूलरूपेण यद्वा सूत्रात्मकरूपेण सर्वा विद्या: सन्ति। योगस्य वर्णनमपि सर्वासु वैदिकसंहितासुमूलरूपेण प्राप्यते। विश्वस्य सर्वे विद्वांस: स्वीकुर्वन्ति यद्वेदा विश्वस्य प्राचीनतमा ग्रन्था: सन्ति। भारतीयज्ञानपरम्परानुसारन्तु सर्गादौ परमकारूणिकेन परमेश्वरेण सर्वोपकारार्थम् अग्नि-वायु:–आदित्य, अङ्गिरा इत्येतेभ्यो ऋषिभ्योऽनुक्रमेण ऋग्वेदस्य, यजुर्वेदस्य, सामवेदस्य, अथर्ववेदस्य च ज्ञानं दत्तम्। इत्यं स्वत: सिद्धं यद् योगपरम्परा अति सर्गसृजनेन सहैव प्रचलिता आसीत्। प्रस्तूयन्तेऽत्र केचन योगविषयका वेदमन्त्रा:– योगे योगे तवस्तरं वाजे वाजे हवामहे। सखाय इन्द्रमूतय। (यजुर्वेद:) अष्टचक्रा नव द्वारा देवानां पूरयोध्या। (अथर्ववेद:) योगविषयका एतादृक्षा बहवो मन्त्रा वेदेषु सन्ति। अत्र तु निदर्शनरूपेण कतिपयानां मन्त्राणामेवोल्लेख: कृत:। वेदेषु विस्तरेण योगसिद्धान्तानां चर्चा विद्यते। अस्मिन् विषये स्वामिदिव्यानन्द सरस्वतिमहोदयेन लिखितो ग्रन्थो द्रष्टव्य:। वेदानां व्याख्यानभूतेषु ब्राह्मणारण्यकोपनिषत्साहित्येसु अपि विस्तरेण योगस्य चर्चा विद्यते। कठोपनिषदि वर्णनमस्ति-यदा पञ्चज्ञानेन्द्रियाणि मनसा सह स्वीकायं व्यापारं विहाय स्थिराणि भवन्ति। बुद्धिश्च न विचेष्टते सैव परमशान्त्यवस्था कथ्यते। योगेश्वरेण भगवता कृष्णेन पञ्चसहस्रवर्षेभ्य: पूर्वमेव गीतायां योगपरम्पराया वर्णनं एवम्प्रकारेण विहितमस्ति–आदौ ईश्वरेण योगस्य ज्ञानं विवस्वते दत्तमासीत्। विवस्वान् मनवे योगशास्त्रं प्राह। मनुना इक्ष्वाकोऽध्यापित। एवमुत्तरोत्तरं योगपरम्परा प्रचलिता। अनन्तरं अस्या योगपरम्पराया विलोप: सञ्जात:। तस्यैव योगस्य ज्ञानमधुना मया ते दत्तम्। महाभारतयुद्धानन्तरमेकवारं पुनर्विलुप्तेव सञ्जाता योगपरम्परा। केवलं कतिपयेषु गिरिकन्दरासु तपस्यारतेषु ऋषिमुनिष्वेन सीमिता सञ्जाता। लोके च योगविषये विविधा भ्रान्ता धारणा: प्रचलिता:। वर्तमानकाले महर्षिणा दयानन्देन पुन महर्षिपतञ्जलेर्योगदर्शनस्य वास्तविकं स्वरूपं प्रकाशितम्। तदनन्तरं महर्षिदयानन्दस्य अनुयायिभिर्भूरिश: प्रचार: कृतो योगपरम्पराया:, तेषु स्वामिरामदेवस्य अपूर्वमेव योगदानं वर्तते। भारतीय परम्परायामादियोगी शिव इति मन्यते। आदिकाले शिवेन हिमालयस्थे कान्ति इति नाम सरोवरतीरे सप्तऋषिभ्यो योगस्य ज्ञानं दत्तमासीत्। एतै: सप्तभि: ऋषिभिस्तञ्ज्ञानं संसारस्य विविधेषु भूभागेषु प्रचारितम्। शिव: हिमालयक्षेत्रस्याधिपतिरासीत्। शिवस्य राज्ये भागीरथेन गङ्गाया: प्रवाह: प्रवाहित:, यस्य अलंकारिकंन वर्णनं पुराणेषूपलभ्यते। 2700 ईसात: पूर्ववर्तिषु सिन्धुसभ्यतायां तथा च सरस्वती सभ्यतायां योगासनानां योगमुद्रादीनाञ्चप्राप्यमाणा: साक्ष्या अपि प्रमाणयन्ति यद् भारते सुव्यवस्थिता योगपरम्परा प्रचलिता आसीत्। महर्षिणा पतञ्जलिना महाभारतयुद्धात्प्रागेव योगदर्शने पञ्चनवत्युत्तरैकशततमेषु सूत्रेषु विभिन्नानां योगसाधकानां योगसाधनाजन्यमनुभवं सग्गलितमासीत्। योगसूत्राणां प्रथमं भाष्यं महर्षिणा वेदव्यासेन व्यासभाष्यमिति नाम्नालिखितमासीत्। योगदर्शने कति सूत्राणि सन्ति?
