निर्देश (प्रश्न संख्या 118 से 142 तक) : निम्नलिखित अपठित गद्यांशों को ध्यानपूर्वक पढि़ए और दिए गए प्रश्नों के सही विकल्प चुनकर उत्तर-पत्रक में चिह्नित कीजिए। आरम्भ में मानवतावाद मानवता को शोषण और बन्धन से मुक्त करने के महान और उदार आदर्शों से चालित हुआ था। तत्त्वचिंतकों और साहित्य मनीषियों के मन में इस आदर्श का रूप बहुत ही उदार था, पर व्यवहार में मनुष्य की उदारता केवल एक ही राष्ट्र के मनुष्यों की मुक्ति तक सीमित होकर रह गई। धीरे-धीरे राष्ट्रीयता नामक देवी का जन्म हुआ। यह एक हद तक प्रगतिशील विचारों की ही उपज थी। हमारे देश में भी नए जीवन-साहित्य के स्पर्श से नवीन जीवन-आदर्श जाग पड़े। मानवतावाद भी आया। दलितों, अध:पतितों और उपेक्षितों के प्रति सहानुभूति का भाव भी आया और साथ-ही-साथ राष्ट्रीयता भी आई। पश्चिमी देशों में राष्ट्रीय भावना के बहुल प्रचार ने एक राष्ट्र के भीतर सुविधाभोगी और सुविधा के जुटाने वाले दो वर्गों के व्यवधान को बढ़ाने में सहायता पहुँचाई। जिन लोगों के पास संपत्ति है और जिनके पास संपत्ति नहीं है, उनका अंतर भयंकर होता गया। एक तरफ तो विषमता बढ़ती गई और दूसरी तरफ राष्ट्रीयता की देवी युवावस्था की देहली पर पहुँचकर ऐसी ईष्र्यालु रमणी साबित हुई, जो सारे परिवार को ही ले डूबती है। इन विकृत विचारों ने ठाँय-ठाँय दो महायुद्धों को भू-पृष्ठ पर उतार दिया। इस प्रकार मनुष्यता की महिमा भी विकृत रूप में भयंकर हो उठी। मानवतावाद के उदय का प्रेरणा-स्रोत क्या था?
