National Geoscience Awards (NGA) 2024

• President Draupadi Murmu presented the National Geoscience Awards (NGA) 2024 on September 26, 2025.
• Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, attended the award ceremony.

• The National Geoscience Awards were instituted in 1966 by the Ministry of Mines.
• They are one of the oldest and most prestigious awards in the field of geoscience in India.
• These awards were previously known as the National Mineral Awards until they were renamed in 2009.

• They aim to recognize outstanding contributions in the fields of geoscience.
• These include mineral exploration, mining technology, and both applied and fundamental geoscience research.
• These awards are given annually in three categories:
• Lifetime Achievement Award, National Geoscience Award, and Young Geologist Award.
