निम्नलिखितं गद्यांशं पठित्वा सप्त प्रश्नानां यथोचितं विकल्पं चित्वा उत्तराणि देयानि। लघुपतनको ब्रूते-‘श्रुतं मया सर्वम् । तथापि मम चैतावान्संकल्प:- ‘त्वया सह सौहृद्यमवश्यं करणीयम्’ इति। नो चेदनाहारेणात्मानं व्यापादयिष्यामि। एतैर्गुणैरुपेतो भवदन्यो मया क: सुहृत्प्राप्तव्य: ? ‘इत्यादि तद्वचनमाकरण्य हिरण्यको बहिर्नि:सृत्याह -’ आप्यायितोऽहं भवतामनेन वचनामृतेन।’ तद्भवतु भवतोऽभिमतमेव।’ इत्युक्तवा हिरण्यको मैत्र्यं विधाय भोजनविशेषैर्वायसं संतोष्य विवरं प्रविष्ट:। वायसोऽपि स्वस्थानं गत:। तत: प्रभृति तयोरन्योन्याहारप्रदानेन कुशलप्रश्नैर्विश्रम्भालापैश्च कालोऽतिवर्तते। एकदा लघुपतनको हिरण्यकमाह- ‘सखे ! कष्टतरल भ्याहारमिदं स्थानं परित्यज्य स्थानान्तरं गन्तुमिच्छामि।’ हिरण्यको ब्रूते -मित्र! क्कगन्तव्यम् ? वायसो ब्रूते-‘अस्ति सुनिरूपितस्थानम् ।’ हिरण्यकोऽवदत्- ‘किं तत् ?’। वायसो ब्रूते-‘अस्ति दण्डकारण्ये कर्पूरगौराभिधानं सर:। तत्र चिरकालोपार्जित: प्रियसुहृन्मे मन्थराभिधान: कच्छपो धार्मिक: प्रतिवसति।’ ‘‘आप्यायितोऽहं भवतामनेन वचनामृतेन’’ कथनमिदं कमुद्दिश्य कथितम् । संवादक्रमं विज्ञाय उत्तरं दीयताम् ।
